Gmail Google Voice. Google Voice Call. Google testing voice calling in Gmail. Google could be ready to turn Gmail into a communications hub by adding the ability to make phone calls from the Google Chat interface.

Google has been edging in this direction for some time. Google Talk was released years ago as a VoIP desktop client and it has also spent a lot of time and money evangelizing Google Voice, a service that transcribes voice mails and allows users to have one phone number that rings multiple phones. But a Web based VOIP client, which is what the new service appears to be, is another matter entirely. This is the likely culmination of Google’s work to integrate Gizmo5′s similar product, which it acquired late last year, into its arsenal. Hints that such a service was coming first surfaced in June on the Google Operating System blog, which is not affiliated with Google.

It’s not clear if Google Voice will be changing, or whether this new service is a completely separate offering. The user interfaces appear the same, for example, the same icons are used to label missed calls or placed calls but Google Voice is not a VoIP service. Users of the new chat or phone call service aren’t required to have a Google Voice account and calls placed to U.S. or Canadian numbers will be free, with discounts on international calls as compared to standard rates.

Skype is the obvious target of such an application, but there are lots of companies that make both desktop based and Web based VoIP clients.

“Google is always testing new features and products, but we have nothing specific to announce right now” a Google representative said.

Earthquake July 16 2010. Maryland, A 3.6 magnitude earthquake struck near the Gaithersburg, Maryland, area just after 5 a.m. ET Friday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The center of the quake was about 20 miles northwest of Washington, the USGS said.

The earthquake was the largest in the area since 1974 and the first registering above 3.0 on the Richter scale there in that time period, said Amy Vaughan, a geophysicist at the USGS National Earthquake Information Center.

“This is a significant event for the region,” she said.

About an hour after the quake, Vaughan said more than 5,500 people had reported feeling it across Maryland, in nearby Washington, and in states including West Virginia, Virginia, Delaware.

“It was really loud, like a plane flying really low. I had never felt anything like it,” said Anne Ngunjiri, 30, of Gaithersburg. “I was jolted out of bed. All my neighbors woke up. After it passed, I thought it could be an earthquake, and lay in bed hoping there were no aftershocks.”

Judy Rudolph, 64, said she was writing e-mails in bed in Rockville, Maryland, when her house started to shake.

“My first reaction was the noise?. I thought it was an explosion,” she said. She said she’d never felt anything like it in her 31 years living there.

Until Friday, the largest earthquake recorded within a 75-kilometer, about 47 miles, radius of Gaithersberg since 1974 was a 2.7-magnitude quake in 1993, Vaughan said.

But geologically speaking, she said it was “not completely unexpected” for a 3.6-magnitude quake to hit there.

“Occasionally these things do happen even east of the Rockies, even though it’s not really on a plate boundary where we expect earthquakes? Faults do exist from when the continent was forming. There are small faults that do exist within this area,” she said.

Vaughan said major structural hurt was unlikely, but people may experience aftershocks for the next day, or even a week or two after the quake.

Washington’s Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency said no injuries or property hurt had been reported.

The last earthquake in Maryland occurred on October 8, 2007, according to the USGS website. It was a 1.7-magnitude quake about 5 miles northwest of Baltimore.

Abby Sunderland. A teen sailor named Abby Sunderland who is a 16 year ancient from Thousand Oaks may have accidentally sailed into a storm in the Southern Indian Ocean while attempting a solo sail around the world. During the course of the events, she lost contact with her family who was never able to re establish communication with her after the storm was over. She had signaled an emergency beacon after her satellite phone was no longer able to contact her family.

She had left on a 40 foot, orange and yellow racing yacht named “Wild Eyes” Abby had been out on the sea since January. She had found a lot of different criticisms on her journey from other sailors because her voyage was going to be taking her into the Indian Ocean at the onset of the winter storm session. It was perilous, and she certainly knew that, but she was an experienced sailor who knew what she was doing on the ocean. She was in what was considered to be the most hard part of her entire voyage, when she lost contact with her family during the storm.

In April, she had sailed around Cape Horn between South America and the Antarctic Peninsula. She had been keeping a blog throughout her journey, and her last entry on her website said that she had hit rough weather and winds that had reached as high as 45 knots.

Her parents said in a number of news reports that they had urged Abby to go to a nearby port if perilous weather conditions arose while she was in the Indian Ocean. Everything had seemed to be working out for her, before the latest incident. Her older brother, Zac, sailed around the world while making several stops over the course of the 13 month trip.

At its heart, Fathers Day is about family with the focus on dad. It should not be about expensive gifts but rather family values and a recogniotion of Dad’s contribution to the family.

From a personal point of view, it’s about Dad’s relationship with you, his son or daughter. This is a day to say thanks with small things like hand made crafts, a hand written Fathers Day card, a photo album or something else personal. Breakfast in bed, a nice gift and a lovely Fathers Day dinner are also welcome but not the main reason or message behind Fathers Day.

Throughout history, we see the roles that father’s play in the family change. The stereotype father is the one who has been out working all day to provide all necessities for their family. Times have, but, changed and not all fathers work. Many have taken the responsibility of raising the children while the mother works.

In this world, we only have the opportunity to have one father and that alone shows us how vital celebrating his fatherhood is. As with any other job done we all have like to feel appreciated from time to time and the job of being a father is no exception. He has been there all through your life helping you along the way.
